Today was finally our long-awaited trip to Mexico City! Dad drove Mom and I to the CBX border crossing pedestrian bridge where we walked over the border into the Tijuana airport. It was quite easy and I’d highly recommend getting there if you’re flying within Mexico.
Once inside, we had to buy a tourist visa since we would be in Mexico longer than a week (11 days to be exact). It costs $28 USD and I can legally stay for up to 6 months (I won’t – too many other places to see on this 6 month sabbatical). We found our gate and sat next to a dismal group of Americans taking shots at 8am. I could tell they were American by the way one of them was dressed – boy shorts (no underwear) and what could loosely be described as a “t-shirt” (no bra, and hence the headlights). By the way, the title is a direct quote from Marta (Mom).
After 3 hours of flying, we got to our hotel which is right in the middle of the action. Quite literally, our balcony overlooks the Zócalo – we didn’t even have to ask too hard for a nice view. Mom thinks it’s because I’m with her but I think it was the Universe.

Ate lunch at the hotel restaurant and then came back to rest and take it easy. This travel day has been exhausting but most of that might be attributed to the higher altitude than we’re used to…I wouldn’t change sea level San Diego for anything, well maybe only for Sevilla. After our rest, we headed out for a small sweet treat – arroz con leche for me and pan dulce for Mamacita. I leave you now with some views of the Zócalo at night.
