Wish I were talking about myself and the Spanish royal blood that courses though my veins, but I am not. Sydney is all abuzz with the arrival of Prince Harry and Megan Markle this morning. I just thought of something, what is Megan’s new last name now that she’s married Harry? What’s Harry’s last name for that matter??!
I haven’t been doing much since my fun-filled Thursday where I met a new friend, Prudence. Friday, I went to the Opera House by walking through the Botanical Gardens. It has been raining since I touched down in Sydney last Wednesday and I started getting sick because of the weather. Or because Pru and I went out Friday night and found an Irish bar! Yes, I always seem to find French guys and Irish bars…it’s my M.O. I guess 🙂 So needless to say, I haven’t done too much since I started feeling bad. I didn’t want to chance the cold getting worse. Side note, all the germ-avoidance measures I took on the plane seemed to have lessened the severity of the cold! I wiped down the tray table, the seatbelt buckle, the window shade, the headrest and the air/light buttons with antibacterial wipes. It may seem excessive but this will now be how I fly in the future.
Today, I thought I should do more of Sydney (even though I’ve racked my brain and it seems the Opera House and the Bridge are the 2 main attractions). So I decided to brave the rain and head to Spice Alley which is 10 or so vendors selling Asian food of all kinds. I had steamed BBQ pork buns, egg rolls, and fried noodles. I wish I chosen differently on the noodles – they were crispy but flavored with egg white sauce and tasted as such. I need more of the salty soy sauce flavorings for my noodles.

After Spice Alley, I walked back to my hotel and saw this fountain which points out the distance to Los Angeles.

I also stumbled upon a bakery or dessert shop and bought an apple crumble and cookie. I’m done for the day at 3pm but I’m OK. I need the rest. And reading a book, curled up in my hotel room is just the recuperation I need at the moment.. I can’t wait to head to Cairns on Wednesday. The weather is 20 degrees WARMER and that’s the second kind of recuperation I need!
