Covid got us jodidas

I learned a new word the other day. My Tía stopped by and asked how we were doing. Mom told her she was “all jodida.” Having never heard this word before I asked what it meant. A lady doesn’t usually talk like that but loosely translated, it means “f%#ked up.” And yep, Covid continues to rear its nasty head. While my symptoms like fever/chills, night sweats and copious amounts of phlegm have long gone, everyday it seems I’m struggling with some new ailment related to or caused from Covid. Things like brain fog and lingering sore throat are to be expected. There’s a reason it’s called “long Covid.” But things like unexplained hives and severe neck pain are problematic. And being out of the country adds another layer of stress.

Tired of making our own food and wanting some variety, Mom took us out to dinner in downtown; in fact, yesterday was the first time we actually ventured out of the condo to go somewhere other than the grocery store. Even small steps are hard for us. Mom has a lingering cough and was tired from just eating dinner. So afterwards, we went back ‘home’ and spent 20 minutes meditating on the beach. Recovery is especially hard and I finally broke down and cried this morning. Mentally, I’m tired of dealing with the after-effects and long term issues.

Once our meditation session was over, we decided to play Lotería and Mom wanted to read the cards even though she can’t see the words too clearly. We laughed so hard at her interpretation of the pictures. I took the following video to let you glimpse into our world of fun times. We both can’t wait until we have fully recovered and aren’t jodidas from Covid anymore.
