Introducing, Mr. Ballena Whisperer

Saturday morning we walked to Mama Mia’s for breakfast. David asked them to make a breakfast burrito, which wasn’t on the menu. Este gringo está loco because what came out were 3 little tortillas with scrambled eggs and cheese, beans on the side. But my crazy gringo got the idea to head out of town for the night to explore some more of Mexico. And at the breakfast table, he found and booked a night at a hotel in Todos Santos. And this fiancée (is that even the right word??!) scored major ‘cool girl points’ since The Eagles are rumored to have written Hotel California at the Hotel California in Todos Santos.

We drove about an hour and a half and arrived at our Hotel Gallo Azul, which was located in walking distance to downtown and the art district. We started souvenir shopping and I had a really bad encounter with this punk ass kid at one of the stores. I’m not going to give him anymore room in my blog except to say DON’T SHOP AT PLAZA EMINA. Ever.

That bad experience was balanced out by a very nice encounter with Mari at another shop where we purchased long-sleeved anti-UV shirts. She even gave us a discount as celebration for our engagement! One bad apple doesn’t spoil the bunch because I still love Mexico. David has started to fall in love with the way of life here and I’m sure it’s not a hard sell to work on buying a condo here in the next few years.

After a few margarita stops, (only 2, we’re not spring breakers) we found the Hotel California and got some pictures. Wandering around downtowns seems to be our thing as we walked around admiring the sunset.

Checking out of the hotel Sunday morning, we drove to the Todos Santos playa and trekked down a mountain filled with cactus to the shore. There is no one else on this beach and as I sit here enjoying my Modelo on the sand, I can say this ‘doesn’t suck.’ David has now come into his own as a ballena whisperer since we have spotted a mama and calf whale from our private beach.
