Livin’ La Vida Local

Tonight is our last night in Los Cabos and we had dinner with family. I’ll miss mi Catalina but I must come back soon with David to check out wedding venues. So “see you soon girlfriend!”

Have you ever wondered what living in Mexico is really like? For the most part, it’s just a nicer way to live – no one honks at you or minds that you’re cutting into traffic. But there are some strange things that make you go hmmm.

  • The 2 supermercados near us are Comer and Chedraui (pronounced “cheddarwowie”). Of the 2, Chedraui is much nicer and has the better pico de gallo and the all important pan dulce.
  • Stop signs are merely suggestions.
  • Don’t even get me started on retornos (roundabouts). David taught me that they act like 4 way stops with California rolling stops and I have successfully navigated them like a local.
  • Speaking of California rolls (the sushi kind), crab meat is a little different here. And crunchy rolls are just crispy rice without the tempura flakes. Get your seafood fix with ceviche or fish tacos.
  • Kids are offered a beer too if they accompany an “adult” into a liquor store. No need to call CPS, he was joking and Miss Thang Catalina told him “I can’t drink beer!” and slapped her own forehead.
  • Saran or plastic wrap is a nightmare to work with. It gets stuck on itself and sometimes doesn’t even come with the metal cutting strip. Glad, please import Press n’ seal!
  • Turtles still come up to the beach to lay their eggs. I saw this lady the other morning.

Heading back home tomorrow to see my dogs and my David. I’ll be back soon and now that David could see himself living here part-time, we’re even more motivated to save our money for an investment property. We just need to get our employers onboard.
