Practicing my “lady of leisure” way of life, Mexico City style.

After the physically tiring day of climbing pyramids yesterday, I knew I wanted to do nothing today. And I mean nothing. At home, this would be one of those days I sit in front of the tv and catch up on Real Housewives of Whatever City. However, when you’re Eloise and living in a hotel, you have to leave the room for housekeeping or sleep in your own filth. Had I been alone, I might have stayed in – don’t judge, you’d be doing the same too!

For breakfast we went to Casa de los Azulejos which is an old mansion covered in pretty blue and white tiles. It also houses a variety of stores including clothing, chocolate shop and book store. This was the first breakfast I actually really enjoyed – scrambled eggs with chorizo. And hash browns, yep super American-style.

Strolling around our neighborhood, I finally went shopping. My happy place! Finding great pieces in other countries and smiling gleefully when people ask me where I got that necklace or that shirt. Like, hahaha, you can’t steal my style!

A little day drinking at the bar surrounded by my new “friends” (the waiters). They are also collectively known as the “Amy Fan Club.” Felipe knows I like limes in my beer. How easy it is to make new friends wherever I go.

For dinner, we went to La Opera Bar which has been in existence since 1876! This cantina (because that’s the proper term for this establishment) is where Pancho Villa shot at the ceiling. Apparently he was a hot-head and my mom tells me that her great-grandma used to have to be hidden away when Pancho Villa came into town because he would steal girls for his men. Maybe hot head isn’t the right word for him… the black spot on the ceiling is the bullet hole.

To end this ultra-relaxing day, we stood and took time-lapse video of the most crossed street in Mexico City.
