More on that in a second…and more of a way to entice you to finish reading until the very end.
My “primo” Paul is doing work at a condo in the complex as a favor to my “Tia” Maye so he visited us yesterday. I decided to work from the kitchen counter because there are too many distractions and things to write about from the patio where I can see one of the pools and more importantly, the water. It’s too beautiful to miss and I wondered if maybe I should have taken a whole month off and really lived the life of a tourist down here. So of course, I had to stop and chat with him and then his mom brought us some homemade flan. But not made by her, because, “La Reina no concinar” and now I know we are all definitely related because my mom “La Gran Senora” also doesn’t cook. Well at least not when we were growing up – she’s famous for her Cheerio casserole (ask her for the recipe. Jajaja). See, I even LOL in Spanish now.
After work, we went to walk around the marina and past the Dolphin Adventure park where you can swim with dolphins. Or, if you’re like us, you can just walk along with some little kids riding bikes and get an up close and personal view at Flipper. We asked Maye to drop us off downtown so we could walk around and explore some more. I gotta say, it’s even cuter as you’re wandering around La Plaza and we got some fun pictures with lots of colors. I think we blend in enough to not be tourists, except Mom, ever the REI enthusiast, who looks like she’s ready to climb los pyramides but there is no Omar to help her. So Paul (my cousin) will have to substitute in. Jajajaja. Side note, there are no pyramids in Cabo. It’s too flat. The most activity we’ll do is walk 2 minutes to Oxxo to comprar cerveza. And I’m OK with that.

Once we were done walking around downtown and eating dinner, we grabbed an Uber back to our condo (which is technically illegal but my Mom and I are rebellious, in more ways than one. Let’s just say the grass is greener here 💨🌿). And then we enjoyed the patio some more (🌿) where we proceeded to trip out and saw some weird light tricks. Here’s some video of me laughing because I recently disocvered why my mom is not spatially aware. She’s blind in 1 eye (legally) and never pays attention to anything around her. I asked her if it was because she couldn’t see anything and a light bulb went off – that’s exactly it! My mom can’t see 👀 so she doesn’t care what’s happening around her. I laughed so hard at that realization and sent the following video to my brothers who replied “that sounds like mom.” Jajajajaja…
And now for the holy water story. The first night we were here, we watched “Haunted Latinoamerica” which is a non-US version of a show we watch in the US. And things in Mexico are so different in many ways (Haunted Latinoamerica is gorier than the US version, you can smoke and drink on the beach, etc). That first night, my Mom felt someone or something touch her leg in the middle of the night. We always attract weird stuff but being in a foreign country makes it even creepier. She told my Tia what happened and today during my mid-day siesta, I was awaken with a spritz of holy water. Literally, Tia went around and blessed the entire condo (even a sleeping Amy) because Mom brought not only all her art supplies, but perhaps a ghost or two. We also stated in both Spanish AND English to whatever may be here: You don’t have permission to be here. You are not allowed in this house. Just in case.
