SL,UT!

I debated a few times with myself on whether I should blog a domestic weekend trip with The Boyfriend or not. And then I remembered, I’m the freaking author of this blog so I can write whatever I want! Everything is going fine between us, but before I make any more major commitments, I need to know what his travel persona is like. My friend Cindy laughed that it was just like me to test fly guys for their ability to “keep up with” me.

I give David points for planning a weekend trip out of California to SL,UT …. Salt Lake City, Utah! Get your minds out of the gutters!! And major points for willing to get tested. I have been getting antsy and more cagey since I sent my passport away for renewal last month. Seriously, it’s like being in a gilded cage. And Homeboy needs to show me his travel style. So here we are, shocking the Citizens of Utah.

And why are we here??! Well, David’s good friend Christina is having a ‘Going Awake’ party since her Guides told her it was time to move out of SL,UT. I knew she was going to be a fun person to meet despite the twilight zone episode we find ourselves transported to. More on her later. Promise.

Arriving by 10:30a from San Diego, we picked up our rental car and spent time walking around downtown until our Airbnb was ready. I will say for those interested, that was 5 hours to kill time. Just saying.

Fun things I’ve since learned or experienced in SL,UT now include:

  • Happy Hour doesn’t exist – there’s “on special”
  • You must show your ID to enter any bar. They scan/keep track of who’s entering the bar
  • Anything above 5% in alcohol content is sold at the liquor store
  • Homophobia is real and blatant, unfortunately.

SLC is such a surreal place. The minute David & I walked into the State Liquor Store, we felt uncomfortable. Like it’s a shady store and only for those degenerate drinkers…the shaming was strong y’all. I have also been getting a lot of stares/looks but I think it’s because I’m so fun and not for the color of my skin.

We met Christina for brunch and I’m pretty sure we are instant besties. If Homegirl be ordering her eggs and bacon how I like mine done, then we gonna be just fine. I wish brunch were longer but if it kept going at the fun-factor level 10, then none of us would be getting to this birthday/funeral/wedding revival! And I for one, am pinning the whole trip’s fun-factor on this event – which actually has a set program of speakers and music. I can’t wait!!

After brunch, a quick trip to the mountains showed us how pretty Fall is in Utah. But it’s also cold so we headed back to our Airbnb for some downtime. Away from the cold outside. Brrrrr
