I never thought I’d be a cruise person. The idea of being on a ship, seeing the same people every day & being trapped with them is just too much for my travel style. I prefer solitude & freedom to choose my own adventure. But the Boyfriend (dubbed Travel Boy by a Reader) found a great Black Friday deal and since he is still pending approval for his application to “Amy’s pre-approved travel list”, I thought a cruise to Mexico would be a great test for us. And for me. Do I even know how to travel with someone?

We left San Diego around 9:45a and headed to Los Angeles for our 7-night cruise to MEXICO! If you have followed me enough, you know my heart lives in at least 4 places: San Diego, Sevilla, Cabo & wherever my parents are (which is currently San Diego so my dad can get treatment for cancer at UCSD). We’re on the Navigator of the Seas and are headed to Cabo, Puerto Vallarta & Mazatlan. David (aforementioned boyfriend) has been to Mexico but he hasn’t been to “Amy’s Mexico” – section 2.B of the application requires an in-field evaluation.
We board the ship quickly and he’s like a kid in a candy store. Or at least, a man who has spent 23 years being on a ship as part of his military career but never a ship with unlimited food and alcohol. He’s retired from Navy (thank you for your Service & protecting America) and has been on ships and at sea way more than me. But he’s never been on a cruise – which just means all the food you can eat & enjoying yourself. I had to remind him there is a ship jail and that I watched “Cruise Ship Killers” the other night. So he needs to “te porta bien.” Behave.

We ran around (together this time) exploring the ship and had dinner in the main dining room with a table full of LDS practitioners. Those who know me, know I don’t care what you believe in, as long as you let me be me. I think 2 glasses of wine at dinner were perfectly fine…our table mates probably thought otherwise. After dinner, I followed the sound of a Selena song (Como la flor) to a bar and got the urge to dance. Maybe the 2 wines were too much, or maybe they were just perfect. I was feeling the music and vibes.

The absolute best part for me was translating for a Spanish speaking group (from SPAIN!) who didn’t speak any English. I am a bit rusty with my Spanish and usually rely on my Mom for the harder translations. I must have done alright since the woman told me my Spanish was good!!!!
I’m actually liking the start of this cruise . Dare I say, “I’m a cruise person”?! Or at least, I’m excited to show David “Amy’s Mexico” as some people call it.
Have fun! Not that you need to be told that, but it all sounds fun!
