¡Cray cray Catalina!

Last Sunday came with a change in my living situation. David went back to America and my Mom arrived for her two weeks’ vacation in Cabo. Since Mom has been here before, we’re focusing on simple-living and don’t really have any plans besides enjoying Mexico and seeing our friends. I haven’t really had much to blog about since my days are spent working, taking a swim break, working some more and then a longer afternoon tan session. What an amazing life I have!

Last night was Artwalk in downtown San José. I’ve been coming to Cabo on a consistent basis for about 3 years now and Artwalk has evolved into a bigger event. I remember when it was just a few vendors in the Plaza and now there are so many local artists! I’m still in search of unique art for our house and Mom wanted to go see our friend Karina, so we made plans to meet my cousin Paul and my vibe tribe/spirit animal, Catalina (aka, Paul’s daughter).

Catalina is cray cray! But I love that kid. If she is my crazy “niece”/Landlady, then I gladly take the title of Tia Loca. Jajajaja. She must spend a lot of time with Paul because I’ve never had a 4 year old tell me “hey dude.” She even speaks like me! And her English is impeccable. She switches mid-sentence to Spanish, just to make sure I’m listening to her. I found myself asking her to translate herself for me. Which is also funny because David often tells me he needs subtitles for me. And in Mexico, he needs a translator when I speak for us.

We arrive just past 5:30p at the designated meeting spot (under the flag pole) and are already getting a video message from Catalina asking us “where are you girls??!” She’s so bossy. And I love it! We walk around the Plaza and then head to Karina’s store so we can say “hi.” I’m also tasked with getting something cute for David’s (eventually, officially, our) 2 newest granddaughters. And when you need something cute (and good quality), you head to Karina’s store, Encanto.

With Paul & Catalina in tow, we said hi to Karina and I picked up these matching hand-embroidered dresses for the grand babies. If I’m going to be an Abuelita (still trying to figure out what I want to be called…), then they’ll get exposure to my culture.

We spent time wandering around downtown while we waited for Ana (Paul’s wife) to meet up with us. Catalina was hungry so we filled her up with jugo de piña, tamales de pollo y elote from the street food vendors.

When Ana arrived, we tried to eat at a hot new Italian Restaurant but it was reservation only. So we went around the block to Pietro’s and had clericot (the Mexican version of sangria), pizza, pear salad and lasagna. After dinner, we called our Uber to head back to the condo with bellies and hearts full. I’m not sure I can get back next year since I’ll be GETTING MARRIED, but I’ve already given Paul + Family a blanket invite to come visit in San Diego.
