Post-trip Update:

Irish people are the best! And if it weren’t for the intense allergies I suffered through, I would consider moving there in a heartbeat. Mom already picked out her cottage along some quiet country road and maybe the goal for retirement should be multiple Encanto-like homes around the world. Like I said, “the travel bug is awake!”

We got home Sunday evening after a very long (16+ hours of traveling) from Dublin, connecting through Dallas. The flight was uneventful (we like those) but the entertainment system wasn’t working (we don’t like those) for a 9 hour long flight. A few nights after we’ve been home, David gets a call from Ireland at 2:30am. He ignores it. Then around 5am he gets another call. We’ve been messed up with sleep after 3 weeks in Europe, so he answers the second call.

David: Hello?

Sixt Car rental agent from Dublin Airport: Hi, Mr. Bennett. Um, yeah, it seems that one of our cars drove off from a gas station in.

David: Stop right there. I know what this is about. I’m so sorry. I was tired from driving so much that I told my wife, “I think I drove off without paying for gas.” How do I make this right? Help me make it right.

Author’s sidenote: In Ireland, they still believe in the honor system. After you pump your gas, you head to the cashier and let them know which pump you were on so they can charge you. David is right, he was a champ at driving us 98% around Ireland. It was nerve-wrecking for me so I’m glad I contributed as much as I could. 2% for the non-math people.

Agent: Well, er, um Ok Mr. Bennett. Let me just connect you with the gas station and you can settle the matter with them.

David paid for the gas over the phone and we’re honestly surprised how easy it was. But not surprising is the reminder that Irish people are the nicest. I met up with a local vendor representative (Maebh, who’s from Ireland) and all of her recommendations for us were spot on. And next time we go to Ireland, we’re going to stay with her mom! Because, yes, we’ll add Ireland to the rotation again. Next adventure will be in March (if I can wait that long, lol), destination: unknown. Thanks for reading everyone!!
