With Canadian roadtrip music queued up, we left Vancouver Tuesday morning and headed to Whistler on the scenic 99 north. We decided to take our time and stop wherever the wind took us, which included viewpoints and the Britannia copper mine that closed down in 1975 and 6 months later became a tourist attraction. Here’s hoping the Canadian goverment actually cares about their citizens and wouldn’t let bad chemicals affect us tourists 50 years later for profit. Speaking of government, the level of quality in the foods at the grocery store is soooo much better than USA. We are not afraid to eat anything fresh in Canada. Reason #365 for moving outside of Vancouver part of the year.
Off the 99, the Brittania has an underground train/mine cart that transported us underground to learn about the copper mining process. Our tour guide even turned on some of the machinery so we could get a sense of how loud working in the mill would have been. It was deafening!
We’re now settled in Whislter for about 4 days. David got a fishing pole (that can break down for traveling back home) and we’ll head to a lake or creek for a morning spent relaxing in nature.
